Z Delays Cause Split
From the progressive newsletter Music News Au Contraire
Published March 31, 1996

Guitarist Mike Keneally and bassist Brian [sic] Beller have parted ways with Z. According to Beller, chronic delays in the release of Z's Music For Pets (originally slated for a Spring '96 U.S. debut) contributed to insurmountable scheduling conflicts between Z and Keneally's Beer For Dolphins.

Following an explosive performance at the January NAMM show, expectations are running high in the Beer For Dolphins camp. Currently they are on the road (accompanied by drummer and 805 alumnus Frank Briggs) but according to Beer bassist Beller, "recording of the new Keneally CD will begin.startlingly soon."

Music For Pets was ready for U.S. release last March, but the Zappas-who retain ultimate creative and managerial control over Z-had repeatedly delayed the release until this month for "business reasons". Music For Pets was released last March in France only and is available as an import.
