The first installment of
the Produce-Your-Own-Bass-Tracks show, made even hairier because
I barely knew James LaBrie when this project first got off the ground.
We talked a couple of times beforehand, and he was very cool about
wanting me to be me, but it was a little disconcerting to do it
this way to existing tracks (some scratch and some real). Show up
at the studio, pop the ADAT in the machine, say hi to the engineer,
start the clock, twelve hours and counting. Go! I think I did fine
with it, but the final mixes ended up less than bass-friendly, and
the methodology made it tough to be truly creative and collaborative.
Certainly the fastest I'd played in some time. It's a good record,
don't get me wrong, but I think everyone involved really likes the
follow-up, MullMuzzler
