The only known non-stage picture of this band, standing on the side
of a small road somewhere in western Spain. Me, Wayne and Ric pretend
it's an album cover.
We played three cities in Spain: Vigo (on the western coast near Portugal),
Bilbao (north central, near the Basque territory), and this tiny little
village, the name of which I can't remember (and it's not on the map,
believe me). This venue was the size of a living room, if that, and
was possibly the most surreal moment of the tour.
You remember the Swedish Bikini Team from those beer commercials?
We met the Swedish Hitchhiking Team on the way from Stockholm to Goteberg.
I guess it's still safe to do that there, and these two adventuresome
young girls accompanied us for the better part of a three-hour drive.
Rowland and I were on the make
but Wayne and Mick Webster were
just waiting for us to strike out so we could get to the next venue
on time.
Our Swedish dates were part of a four-band bill, of which we were
the headliners. Two of the other bands were Swedish local heroes The
Nomads and The Hellecasters, and the guys in those bands just worshipped
Wayne, which made things easy. The fourth band was an angry Aussie
outfit called Monkey [Something], and were considerably less fun to
be around. The guys in this picture with Ric and I were from the Swedish
bands. Note the return of my hipster sunglasses.
