Welcome to 2017! Seems like it was just weeks ago that I was telling you about the glorious end to the Very Long And Intense 2016, with my lost luggage finally being located and a long holiday rest just around the corner. Wait…it was just weeks ago. Something must have happened in between that made it feel longer.
Oh, right: My storage space was broken into and most of my basses were stolen. I discovered this fact just 48 hours after I sent my last e-mail.
This probably isn’t news to most of the people on this list who also follow me on social media (specifically Facebook, and also Twitter). If you know about this whole affair already, just skip ahead to the show announcements. If this is indeed news to you, then I’ll simply summarize it here and direct you to a few links where you can learn more. The summary is:
* 7 of my 10 basses, including my Red Mike Lull “#1″ instrument, were stolen, along with some electronics and other precious things. The initial Facebook “THEFT ALERT” post about it was seen by over two million people and shared over 13,000 times. Thank you, people of the internet!
* Two of the thieves were caught and a few pieces of electronics were recovered, but the instruments are still out there somewhere. The bust happened on New Year’s Eve.
* I ended up playing amateur detective as a result of all this, and I wrote a new installment of “The Life Of Bryan” (the first in 11 years) about the whole kerfuffle. It’s called “Storage Wars”. In case you missed it, read it all here.
I’m obviously quite keen to find them, and at the same time, not become completely consumed with finding them. The missing instruments are quite unique and I’m confident they’ll turn up eventually. In the meantime: See something, say something.
And thank you to everyone who’s already been helping with the effort. You know who you are.
I remain grateful for all of the positive energy that’s been generated by this unfortunate incident, and while of course I’m hoping for the best, it’ll work out the way it’ll work out. In the meantime, there’s still plenty of music to make, and I’ll use whatever tools I’ve got in order to do it.
And on that note: If you’re at NAMM, then, guess what? So am I! I’m only doing one scheduled show/appearance, and it’s on Saturday night with Mike Keneally:
presented by Blue Mouth Promotions

It’s a big huge massive night of music and hang-osity. All the cool kids will be there. You know what to do.
