Europe Forever: Satriani Now, Aristocrats Next!

Hello everyone – it’s been too long! I have a good excuse, though.

If you’re a regular reader of these here BellerBytes, and you see my schedule, and sometimes wonder, “With that crazy schedule, doesn’t he ever just hit the wall?”…well, wonder no more: I hit it pretty hard at the end of the just-completed Aristocrats Tres Caballeros North American tour. Turns out I had one – yes, one! – day to transition into Joe Satriani rehearsals after that run was over, and then a few more days before setting off to France, which is where I’m writing you from right now. I was barely coherent there for nearly two weeks, which hopefully will be a good enough excuse for my near-inexcusable gap since I last wrote you.

What I’ve got here is major, big-time, yuuuuuuge gratitude for everyone who made the Aristocrats North American run a success. Being a part of The Aristocrats for the past four years has been an amazing experience, and it’s hard to describe just how special it is to see this band grow from a single NAMM jam into what we’re still becoming.

So I just want to say to everyone from Seattle to Salt Lake, from to Omaha to Ottawa, from Cincy to Indy, from Boston to Houston, from New York to New Mexico, from Montreal to Mexicali, and from St. Louis to Los Angeles: T H A N K Y O U.

Thanks to you, and to our amazing crew, and to the Travis Larson Band, and to our North American booking agents Blue Mouth Promotions, we did the thing they said couldn’t be done: We did an old-fashioned two-van rock-venue tour of North America, for 8 weeks, as an instrumental rock/fusion band, and It Worked. We are all grateful beyond words.

Here’s a shot of the Tres Caballeros North American Tour entourage plus one, backstage at King King in Hollywood, the last gig of the tour. L to R: Guthrie Govan, stage tech/assistant T.M. Ben Travers, Bryan Beller, Marco Minnemann, BOING Music (label) head Ed Yoon, and Josiah Baker (social media/merch).

And here’s a (slightly fuzzy) shot from the same gig of everyone in the traveling party, both bands and both vehicles. L to R: Guthrie Govan, Josiah Baker, Travis Larson, Dale Moon (drums/TL), Kip Stork (seated; front of house sound for both bands), Jennifer Young (bass/TL), Marco Minnemann, Devon Booth (merch/TL), Ben Travers, Bryan Beller.

Many more awesome live shots of the tour can be found at these links:

As always, our Facebook page is the best place for consistent updates. You can also re-live the tour by starting at the top and scrolling down. It’s fun.

What’s next? Well, the Joe Satriani European tour for his new album (Shockwave Supernova) is happening right now. After that, it’s more European touring with The Aristocrats, both before the holidays and after (with many more dates still to be announced). Here’s a couple of shots of me (by the amazing Jon Luini!) from the rehearsals, where I was barely awake but managed to smile somehow anyway.

And – OMG – I met Michael Anthony while I was there! I’m a huge early Van Halen fan and played along with many of this guy’s basslines. All of the stories about him being the nicest guy ever are absolutely true.

After that, because you read BellerBytes, you get some exclusive breaking news:

May 2016: The Aristocrats WILL tour South America!

I have no details beyond that, but they’ll be coming soon. You heard it here first.

There will also be more Joe Satriani dates announced soon (*cough* North America *cough*). And I know something about summer and fall 2016 that I can’t share yet, but let’s just say our friends around the world will enjoy some of the details when they’re available.
