Because, unless an event is documented, no matter how momentous or horrible or wonderful that event may be, it soon becomes only a memory to the participant(s) and a fading one at that. And until something is documented, one can debate as to whether or not it actually occurred at all. There are many forms of documentation. Modern technology brings us more brutally effective forms with each passing year. But in my eyes, the act of writingand the preservation of individual imagery for the readeris the purest form of all. This may sound more the creed of a journalist rather than a writer. I do relate much more to non-fiction and/or analysis of real events than I do fiction. So this is why I write, not why you or others should or should not. I do it for self-understanding. I do it to share experiences with others. I do it for a spiritual release. I do it because it is the only way I know how to create something from nothing. I do it because of this quote from Joyce Carol Oates:
