WesFest 9 Featuring John Patitucci – and The Aristocrats’ European Tour Kickoff

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

Hey everyone. We’ve got two big things to talk about here:

* WesFest 9, featuring John Patitucci
and
* The Aristocrats “Culture Clash” European Tour

I’ll take the first part first, Bob: The 9th Annual WesFest fundraising drive kicks off right now. It’s centered around the WesFest 9 benefit concert, which goes to benefit the Wes Wehmiller Scholarship at Berklee College Of Music. This year’s headliner is a musical hero of mine – the one and only John Patitucci, in his first L.A. performance in many years – and it’s going to be at an intimate venue: The Baked Potato in Los Angeles, CA. The bill will also feature Joe Travers & Friends (a rotating hotshot lineup), as well as Danny Mo & The Exciters featuring 2013 Wes Wehmiller Scholarship Award Winner Max McKellar, with Jonathan “JR” Robinson and Kira Small.

Ticket sales are also a little different. Because of the smaller venue, tickets will be made available first to those on the event’s mailing list. Not on it? Then get on it! Just e-mail wesfest@weswehmiller.net and make the request. General tickets go on sale to the public on February 17.

Can’t make the show? It’s OK, you can donate anyway! We’ve raised over $160K to date for the Wehmiller Scholarship Fund, and some amazing bassists and people have benefited from it. The goal this year is to raise another $20K, which doesn’t only happen from ticket sales.

So it’s a group effort, and all the info you need to know about the multi-act event – and more if you click around the Wes website, which I encourage you to do – can be found by clicking right here.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time then you probably know that I’ve helped to organize this whole thing since its inception in 2006. This year I’m unable to do that or be there because I’ll be bouncing around the globe with The Aristocrats (and the tireless Stacey Ferguson is leading this year’s effort), but I’m still committed to seeing the event succeed. I hope you’ll join me in that effort, in any way that you’re moved to do so.

Taking a step back for a second, the “Culture Clash” tour just finished up a great run through the U.S. West and Mexico (including first-ever shows in Denver, ABQ, Phoenix, Vegas, Mexicali and Mexico City), and we hereby thank everyone who came out to see those shows. Here’s a composite shot from our gig at the Charvel Guitars-sponsored NAMM Jam in Anaheim, CA, as part of a bill with djenters Periphery and metal legend Jake E. Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel. Fun was had by all.

And, of course, don’t forget to follow The Aristocrats on Facebook and Twitter for updates from the road.

That’s it for now – time to hit the road in a van across Europe for 10 weeks. :-)

Cheers to all,
Bryan Beller
